Volunteering as a Counsellor at KWC
The Kapiti Women’s Centre provides a free counselling service to women on the Kapiti Coast. This service is provided by a team of volunteer counsellors.
Skills you need to be a part of the counselling team:
- An active interest in supporting women
- To be a qualified counsellor or a counsellor in training
- To work according to the Code of Ethics of the NZAC, or other approved body
- To work therapeutically, respecting client’s needs, e.g. trust, confidentiality and safety
If you would like to be part of this team then:
- You will be asked to come to an interview with a member of HUB (the Trust Board of KWC), the Counselling team facilitator and the Coordinator
- If successful you would then sign a contract outlining the working arrangements between yourself and KWC
You will be asked to:
- See a minimum of three clients per week
- Maintain clinical standards by attending clinical supervision
- Attend monthly KWC peer meetings
- Maintain relevant and adequate client records and statistics
- Follow KWC client contact practises and administration procedures
- Participate in Centre activities such as Hui, fundraising, social events
